Email AccountsThe mail section in your cPanel control panel allows you to do a number of things including installing email accounts, filtering, eliminating spam, checking browser accessible mail, forwarding email, creating auto-responders and more. IMPORTANT: There is a base email address installed when your account is set up. It is username@yourdomainname.ext where user name is the same as shown in your welcome email, and yourdomainname.ext is replaced with your domain name and proper extension. This account is set as the default account, meaning it collects all improperly addressed mail (usually a lot of spam). Also by default this account is set to just eliminate the mail using ":fail: no such address here" to bounce it. You can change this setting in your control panel, but we recommend that you leave it at the :fail: setting. Please be sure to enter a contact address in control panel if required and keep it up-to-date. This address is used by us and the server to notify you about any problems or scheduled maintenance. If you are using Outlook or Outlook Express, you can configure your email client automatically by using the appropriate button in the "Mail Accounts" section of control panel. Read the instructions carefully on each screen. For manual configuration use the following when installing to your email client. For incoming mail (POP3) server and outgoing mail (SMTP) server use mail.yourdomainname.ext where yourdomainname.ext is replaced with your domain name and proper extension. The user name should be the full email address, “somebody@yourdomain.ext” without the quotes if the email address is somebody@yourdomain.ext EXCEPT if it is the base account as discussed above in which case the user name is just the user name you use to access cPanel, (NOT the full email address). If you experience difficulty with this setting try the full email address (somebody@yourdomain.ext ) with a “+” instead of the “@” (somebody+yourdomain.ext). Be sure you enable "Server requires authentication" for outgoing mail. If you are having problems sending mail, change out outgoing port to port 26 instead of 25. Many ISP’s are blocking access to port 25 to control the flood of spam. If you continue to have problems sending mail, you may need to use an SMTP server supplied by your ISP. Please contact them for the proper configuration. DO NOT SET YOUR EMAIL CLIENT TO LEAVE COPIES OF EMAIL ON THE SERVER AS YOU WILL QUICKLY RUN OUT OF SPACE. IF YOU ARE USING WEBMAIL, BE SURE TO EMPTY YOUR TRASH BIN AFTER YOU HAVE DELETED EMAIL. The trash bin is also counted towards your email account quota. Mail ForwardersYou may wish to forward email from your domain to another email address. We do not recommend that you forward your email to an external provider but you are welcome to do so. Note that you do not need to install an email account to set up a forwarder for that account. In other words if you want to forward mail from address2@yourdomain.ext to address1@yourdomain.ext you do not need to have the mail address address2 installed anywhere but in the mail forwarder section. Browser accessible mailTo access browser accessible mail on your cPanel account you may either click on webmail in control panel or go to http://www.domainname.ext/webmail. Replace domainname.ext with your site name and extension. Your user name is the full email address and password is what you set up for individual email accounts. Signing in using the browser link and individual email accounts will give access to only that account.RelatedUsing Spamassassin to control unwanted messages Installing Email Accounts in Outlook or Outlook Express See also Troubleshooting Email |
